Dysfunctional Training
Training with me is built on evidence, honesty, and community. I lead by example, so I train and rest exactly the way I ask my members to. There’s little room for bro-science in my gym. Programs follow evidence-based progressive overload, with weights logged over time to make sure you’re getting enough stimulus to build muscle. Form always comes before ego, and I’ll modify any movement to fit you.
I also believe the work should be fun. Even the hard sessions come with laughs, and I’ll call you out when effort slips (with good-natured jabs, and I’ll back off if you tell me to). Fitness works better with a like-minded community, so expect to make friends, rotate partners on Fridays, and train alongside people who want you to succeed.
Just as important is what we don’t do. You won’t be doing endless reps for the sake of reps, since you get the same benefits at 5-30 reps without being wrecked for days. You won’t find burpees, awkward combo lifts, or gimmicky exercises that stress your joints without building what you want. And we won’t skip cardio because it supposedly “kills your gains.” It has real benefits for daily life and for hypertrophy, and I’ll always give you the chance to maximize your potential.
The same thinking applies to nutrition. I don’t offer crash diets, boot camps, or detoxes built around fast weight loss, because the faster weight comes off, the more likely it is to return. I hold multiple nutrition certifications and love offering advice in this area, but I don’t believe in “good” or “bad” foods. Every food you want in your life has a place, and the key is balance. Progressive overload training gives you flexibility in what you eat, and over time you’ll learn how to use that to your advantage.
Whether it’s a goal, a question, or just a rough week, I’m always happy to offer an ear and some advice.
